This spectacular dress, in palest pink silk, is a superb and rare example of a Thierry Mugler ballgown. The dress is dynamically designed to enhance the bust and waist and create an ‘Old Hollywood’ style silhouette yet remaining resolutely modern with all the iconic Mugler detailing. The deeply plunging V-neckline, the ‘kick outs’ to the halterneck and the secondary panels to the waist line all trick the eye and create a sinuous, exaggerated form that leads into a full ballgown skirt of epic proportions.
Thierry Mugler first started designing clothes in London in the late 1960s before returning to Paris. His designs became the benchmark for the new ‘Power Dressing’ of the late 1980s and 1990s and his focus on darted waists, pronounced shoulder lines and a heavily sculptural feel became the expression of the decade.
